The unfolding of your words gives light;
it gives understanding to the simple.
Psalm 119:130
Just a fresh look
a different perspective
of the words You have given to us.
Lord, open my eyes
in wonder and surprise
at the wisdom You have for my life.
The things I knew as a child
they were just what I needed
but now I’ve grown up and I’m old
Lord, put in my heart
a desire to learn more
deeper than the child I once was.

When was the last time you read about Adam & Eve. Noah & the flood. Abraham & Isaac. Joseph. Moses. David & Goliath. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. Daniel & the Lion’s Den. Jonah. Zaccheus. The Good Samaritan. Jesus’s Crucifixion…
Or, what about the walls of Jericho falling down and Peter and John helping a man walk again?
A few years ago I decided to re-read each of the “famous” Bible stories I learned as a child. I wanted to see if I remembered them correctly.
And I was surprised. Not just to find tidbits I’d never known before, but how each one revealed a deeper meaning to me.
There was a freshness about them. New insights discovered.
I believe God gives us an understanding of the Scriptures for where we are in certain periods of our lives. Bible stories are made fun and engaging for us as children. The lessons are easy to understand. But as we get older, God reveals extra insights and wisdom into the same passages. Now they are no longer just childhood stories, but lessons for our everyday lives we can cling to as adults as well.
I challenge you to open your Bible and re-read these precious stories. See what God shows you this time.
From My Heart to Yours,
Marcie 🙂
