The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save;

He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love,

He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17

A Quiet Respite

Swiftly, quietly she soars

spreading wings

gliding on air

Swiftly, quietly it runs

gurgling happily along

sunlight glistening off its liquid skin

Swiftly, quietly he leaps

joyful in his catch

of the day

Swiftly, quietly she bounds

enjoying her freedom

on such a pleasant, sunny day

Swiftly, quietly I open the curtains

throw up the sash

inhale the very breath of God

Who …

Swiftly, quietly runs to me

arms open wide

rejoicing I’ve come home.

I think we often want God to speak to us directly, in the loudest way possible. We want to make sure we haven’t missed Him or His message to us. So, we look for Him through the thunder, lightning, earthquake, hurricane, tornado, and any other way in which our attention is immediately drawn to.

How often do we marvel at the sheer beauty of the day or the river just rambling along its way? Do we recognize God in the gazelle as she leaps or the bunny as it hops? Where do you see God in your day to day living?

For the first time in almost a week we gained a bright sunny day. I couldn’t help myself. I had to open the curtains and let the sun stream in! Wouldn’t you? And as it filled my living room, I realized how much I had been missing my time with Jesus.

I confess, I haven’t spent much time reading my Bible lately. I pray often. But taking the time to sit down and read God’s Word hasn’t been on my radar as much. My attitude has been as bleak as the cloudy, grey, rainy days.

When the sun streamed in, it was like God was singing to me. I suddenly felt His warmth, peace, and love.

God delights in rescuing us. Not just from our sins, but also, from ourselves, our attitudes, our boredom and whatever else is burdening us.

Then, He quiets us. He gives us peace, comforting our heart and soul.

Don’t get me wrong. God definitely is in the firework displays in our lives. Just don’t forget to seek Him, notice Him, find Him, recognize Him in the quieter beauty of life.

From My Heart to Yours,

Marcie 🙂
