Holding On to Hope
I know you feel like you are all alone
sitting on the porch trying to let the breeze
wash over your soul
but instead you choke, suffocating
as you inhale but cannot seem to exhale
I know you are reenacting the Civil War each day
hoping surrender will come your way
it never does, and you’re so tired of the
bombs, gunfire, and grenades exploding around you. . .
And, I know you are holding on tight as you can
knuckles white, shaking, unable to grasp
even at straws
I know—because I am too—so are many others
You, my friend,
are not alone.
I promise you this:
Even in the darkest night where
you can’t see even the tiniest spark of light
there is still a Light in your darkness.
His name is Jesus, and He’s waiting
with open arms to gather you up
to let you know He’s got you, and,
He’s got this all under control.
You are not alone.
You are loved.
Not just by Jesus, but by me too.
So hold on to hope
hold on to Jesus
tighten your grip on that rope
feel Him pull you up from the pit
into the Light of His love, mercy, and grace.
Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world.
He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
