“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Matthew 11:28-30
Today is a slow day.
Rain has showered
earth is being healed
so is my heart
as peace falls freely
upon my weakened soul.
My steps unsteady, unsure
taking each moment
giving myself permission
to rest, breathe, think
each decision weighs
not like a stone
more like a feather
grace, upon grace, upon grace
in the smallest and largest space.
Right now I’m upright
soon I might be curled into a ball
yet I cannot escape the notion
no matter what I do through the hours
God has granted me just what I need.
May I remember when I close my eyes
not to beat myself up for all I didn’t accomplish
because instead of anxiety, turmoil, dismay
I loved myself enough to say
today it’s okay to have a slowed down day.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7

Yes, slow days are rejuvenating. God wisely included a slow day weekly because he knows we overly -scheduled humans need it.
