As the deer
pants for the water brooks, So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts
for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God? My
tears have been my food day and night, While they continually say to me,
“Where is your God?” Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why
are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; For I shall yet praise Him, The help
of my countenance and my God.

Psalm
42:1-3, 11

“Fill my cup, Lord, I lift it
up Lord. Come and quench this thirsting of my soul. Bread of Heaven feed me til
I want no more. Fill my cup. Fill it up and make me whole.”¹

I sat on the top step
listening to the river as it bubbled over the rocks. Nature was singing all
around me. A light breeze stirred the leaves of the trees as birds sang along
to the song. I was mesmerized.

Tears flooded my eyes as I
sang this chorus. It had been flooding my heart for weeks leading up to this
retreat. God’s presence wrapped around me and His soft voice whispered to me…come
to me Marcie. Come to me. Don’t be afraid. Just come.

We had all come thirsty.
Thirsty for the Living Water. Thirsty for more of Jesus and less of us. We had
come dehydrated longing for renewal. Longing to be quenched of this thirst that
would not abate.

The words of our keynote
speaker took root inside my heart:

“When we get dehydrated we
forget who we are. But, God is the great I AM. And He says, I AM WHATEVER YOU
NEED ME TO BE WHENEVER YOU NEED ME [TO BE IT].” ² (addition mine)

Now if that doesn’t fill you
up even a little bit then I’m not sure what will. I mean, come on! God promises
to be whatever we need at the moment we need Him.
And whenever we accept His
invitation to come to Him, He is right there to fill us up with whatever we are
hungering and thirsting for.

Come.
Cup your hands
let them be filled
with living water
for your soul.
Drink.
Deeply of His grace.Stretch out your hand
open, willing, needing,
to be filled
with mercy and truth.
Come
Abide.
Let His words
His love, His heart
reside, quenching
the thirsting of your soul.
