For we walk by faith, not by sight.
2 Corinthians 5:7
I made a mistake.
A huge one.
I was so sure
you were not listening
you did not care
you had gotten tired of me
left me to figure it out
all on my own.
So, I quit talking to you.
I quit reading your letters to me
I decided you couldn’t be trusted
I gave up.
How wrong I was.
I see that now.
I hope and pray you understand.
You’re God. Why wouldn’t you?
I want to be overwhelmed by you
be in awe and know you.
Today you showed up to say
you’ve been here all along
I just needed to show up too,
and keep our friendship growing
and going strong.
Sometimes I think there must be
some kind of magic to all of this
but you’ve reminded me once again
no magic, no special effects,
can do what you can.
Just trusting, believing,
keeping the faith—sight unseen
that’s all the ingredients I need
to keep living day-by-day.

“Faith does not eliminate questions. But faith knows where to take them.” ~Elisabeth Elliot
Are you walking by faith, or by sight? Are you feeling lost, alone, afraid God has left you? Where are you looking for answers to your problems? Are you angry with God? Waiting on that miracle which seems so elusive?
I wish I could tell you I’ve been a beacon Christian. I wish I could tell you I have been walking by faith. But as another year rolls by and there seems to be no end in sight of a hard situation in our family, I have found my faith flagging.
Yet, every time I beg God to help me—to help us—He shows up, settling my unhappy heart, and stilling my quivering chin.
One day all of this will be over. God will bring the miracle I’m waiting on. But in the meantime, He calls me to obedience. An obedience of walking by faith and not by sight.
When I can’t trace his hand, I can trust his heart. ~Charles Spurgeon
