A time to gain, And a time to lose; A time to keep,
And a time to throw
away;
away;
Ecclesiastes 3:6

LETTING GO
The very last leaf clung to its branch
Afraid to let go, scared of the land
Looking down it shook with fright
Falling might be a really long flight.
The wind picked up and the branch it shook
Little leaf held on as long as it could
Its colors had changed to yellow and red
Began its descent to a cold, earthen bed.
It blew to the right, then to the left
Got dizzy spinning around with the wind
Cried out to its Maker for a soft, easy landing
The longer it fell the more its heart hammered.
All of a sudden no warning at all
Little leaf abruptly ceased to fall
Found itself held in the palm of a hand
Fear vanished as peace began to descend.
Through life with all of its twists and turns
We must let go and let God have all of our fears
Let go of our worries, problems, and cares
Falling safe in the hands of our Savior, our Friend.

YOU know you’ve been holding on for far too long to that branch.
Truth is, you are scared to death to turn around backward, arms outstretched,
and take that free-fall off the cliff into the unknown.
and take that free-fall off the cliff into the unknown.
Because what in the world is scarier than drifting with no
direction and no safety net?
direction and no safety net?
Tightropes are not for sissies and neither are high dives.
Free-falling is one risky business and yet somewhere along the way we have to
make the choice to just. Let. Go.

“Let go and let God,” they say. Let God…what?
He didn’t just come to die for our sins. He didn’t just come to
rise again. He came to give us peace. Peace that settles down into the very
depths and cracks in our hearts and souls. Peace that invites us to curl up and
sleep at night.
rise again. He came to give us peace. Peace that settles down into the very
depths and cracks in our hearts and souls. Peace that invites us to curl up and
sleep at night.
Peace that only comes because He is our peace.
Worry, doubt, fear, self-loathing, lies, wounds…yeah we’ve all
been there. Staring at the mirror calling ourselves all kinds of hurt and ugly.
been there. Staring at the mirror calling ourselves all kinds of hurt and ugly.
Clinging to the last vestiges of whatever is causing the depression, guilt, sin or hurt only causes us misery. At some point, we have to let go of our pride and fall into the arms of Jesus.
Free-fall into the safety net of Jesus’ love and grace.

I LOVE the metaphor of the little leaf! I feel like that little leaf, hanging on to the familiar for dear life instead of letting go and falling into God's purposes and plans. I smiled as I read it. This would make a sweet children's book too Marcie girl. I love you.
Your words are refreshing as a spring rain. Thank you for your love and encouragement Nan 🙂
