Your love, Lord, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, Lord, preserve both people and animals.
How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.
Psalm 36:5-9
Sweetest name above all names
Redeemer, Savior, Friend,
strongest power of the lands
Alpha, Omega, Creator.
Hurricanes can’t wipe Him out
tornadoes cannot blow Him away,
earthquakes can’t make Him disappear
flooded waters cannot cover Him up.
Greater than my sin
because His death has overcome,
greater than the one
that prowls this earth
(he thinks it is his home).
Heavens testify God’s vastness
just like the sands and oceans deep,
and I sit in wonderment
that this great God would love a soul like me.
Oh the name of Jesus
the most powerfully awesome name
stands forever and ever
as with creation I will sing!

Who is God to you?
What do you think of, when you think of God?
Let’s whittle this down a bit. What is the attribute you think of first when you think about God?
My first thoughts are of His love. His unfailing, unfaltering, unending, steadfast, immovable love.
His faithfulness. Sometimes I wonder why He stays faithful to me when I am not given to being faithful in return. But He is always here. Always ready to listen. And He sees me through whatever dangers come my way. Most importantly, He is ready and faithful to forgive me of my sins when I confess them to Him.
And oh my goodness! Amazing grace! It’s become such a common thing to us. When was the last time you sang the song Amazing Grace and it truly lifted your spirit? When was the last time you didn’t just sing it to, well, sing it? Do we even know anymore how amazing His grace truly is!
How deep and precious is our relationship with God when we learn to focus on Him and not on whatever is spinning out of control around us. His word gives sight to even the most blind person and the deaf can hear Him so pitch perfect when we worship Him in spirit and in truth.
We are studying Psalms right now in First 5. Today I read Psalm 36 and its accompanying devotion. In the middle of this Psalm, which begins quite heavy and not so encouraging, David suddenly begins to list God’s attributes by thinking about the vastness of His creation:
“God is Love (Psalm 36:5, 7, 10)
God is Faithful (Psalm 36:5)
God is Righteous (Psalm 36:6, 10)
God of Justice (Psalm 36:6)
God our Savior (Psalm 36:6)
God our Refuge (Psalm 36:7)
God is Light and Life (Psalm 36:9)
God our Provider (Psalm 36:8)
As David declares the attributes of God, it’s as if he’s thinking of the biggest objects that come to mind: the heavens, the clouds, the mountains, the great deep. (Psalm 36:5-6) With that kind of majesty and power, the Lord would tower over the wicked coming against David. God’s steadfast love would shield David and sustain His people.” – First 5
I don’t know about you, but just thinking on these characteristics of God brings a lightness and wonderment to my heart. I don’t normally read down through the comments section at the end of the devotions on the app (because it distracts me from meditating on what I just read), but this time I did. And how wonderful it was to read so many women’s testimonies of God’s heart for them.
What attribute will you write about God in the comments below? How has He revealed Himself to you (recently or in the past) and given you the strength to continue on?
From My Heart to Yours,
Marcie 🙂

I love this version of Amazing Grace sung by Darlene Zschech. Sing with her and let His grace wash over your deepest, innermost parts.
Like you, Marcie, I think of God’s great love, grace and faithfulness, not to mention His majesty, glory and omnipotence. That He takes the time to care for each one of us always blows my mind with wonder.
Blessings!
