BLOOD SOAKED SNOW
I watch as the snowflakes drift lazily on a whisper of air
down onto the hard, unforgiving earth.
It lands softly covering the dirt, decay, filth,
filling cracks, crevices, corners and ditches.
The water seeping through the thirsty dry deterioration
of cracked parched lips and winter hands.
Blood
drip, drip, dripping, pooling at the base of a cross
like the blood from birds dead by windmills.
Blood that runs in rivulets down the hill through the shadow
to my bent kneeling body
staining, blanketing earth and cracked dry feet
covering, clothing, washing my heart
like fresh fallen snow
the newness that makes all things clean.
down onto the hard, unforgiving earth.

“Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are like scarlet, They shall be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson, They shall be as wool. Isaiah 1:18 (NKJV)

This is a beautiful song I found titled “Whiter Than Snow”

Hi Marcie! Thank you for your visit today to my new blog-home. I appreciate your follow too!
What a beautiful comparison of snow and blood. They do both cover the earth with a blanket of beauty. Maybe Nan has a point…have you ever considered publishing your work?
Have a good afternoon and peaceful night,
Ceil
Beautiful poem, Marcie! So rich in meaning. I love the white purity of snow contrasted with "dirt, decay, filth" which still has life giving water seeping through it, becoming a flow of blood found at the cross. Good work! Bless you 🙂 x
HI Ceil!
Yes, I have thought of it and yes, I'm working on it (Shhhhh…don't tell Nan! LOL!)
Thank you!
Marcie
