Pondering The Poetic Heart

Pondering the Poetic Heart is a place to guide our spirits into place of contemplative rest. As a poet, I long to encourage you to find hope and healing through the process of reflecting on God, love, life, and all things that capture the spirit through the written word.

In the month of November, I will lead us through a time of thanksgiving through my 30 Days of Thanksgiving Poems. In December we will ring the bells of Christmas. There will also be other times through the year when we will celebrate love, just for fun poetry, and more. I pray this will be a place of loving contentment for all of us.

Symphonies of Praise

Symphonies of Praise

Oh that we would take our hearts out of our homes and find God out in the wide open spaces! Take a tip from Job:

"Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.”

Earth,
inhales God’s breath
exhales His voice
speaking His words
setting poetry within the soul.

Echoes of thunder
call out from Heaven to heaven
as lightning declares
He will not be moved or shaken. . .

Mountain Peaks and Valleys Deep

Mountain Peaks and Valleys Deep

The Bible tells us the earth moans and groans for the coming of the Lord. But, it also praises God. In fact, if we don't do the praising, the rocks will cry out for us. Do we live our thanksgiving or do we live our burdens?

The valley low knows your need
it feels your pains dark and deep
and mountain peaks hear your praise
when your spirit soars on its wings

I Don’t Care

I Don’t Care

While the title of this poem doesn't seem to speak "thanksgiving" or even happiness, I hope it will encourage your heart. Sometimes we have to get through the hard words, to get to the thankful words.

I don’t care if the sky is blue
if I am not with you
I don’t care if the grass is green
without you here next to me.
I don’t care if the flowers bloomed
I don’t care if the moon is full
I don’t care much about anything
if I can’t share it with you.

Sunrise, Sunset

Sunrise, Sunset

The sunset tonight was gorgeous! I had to run outside and take pictures. His artwork never ceases to amaze me and make me smile. Does it you too?

When the day is long
you feel all alone
like there’s no one
who cares about you,
take a quick breath
go outside and rest . . .

Good & Perfect Gifts

Good & Perfect Gifts

Today a ladybug was hitching a ride on my car and I got to thinking about different wonderful things God gives us each and every day. And every gift from God is a perfect gift.

Ladybugs and bumblebees
falling leaves and Christmas trees
swaying grasses, chilly breeze
thank you Lord, for all of these.

Spaces and Graces

Spaces and Graces

Oftentimes we do not keep space in our lives for God's grace to filter through. We keep our distance, holding onto our burdens instead of faith.

Nothing’s more comforting
than a mind at peace
a soul at rest
space in the heart
nested in thankfulness.

When You Feel Invisible

When You Feel Invisible

Did you know God knows you and loves you and even calls you by name? Even when you feel alone and invisible. Maybe today we all need to be reminded He is always with us, and He loves us no matter where we are or what we are doing.

“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
Isaiah 43:1

A Thanksgiving Blessing

A Thanksgiving Blessing

Today's poem is about the simplicity of Thanksgiving. Learning to rest in God and to be thankful during even the toughest times of life.

May He bless you this day
in the stillness of your hands
and the quietness of your feet
through the pondering of life
in its simplicity.

Take Courage ~ the story of a little leaf

Take Courage ~ the story of a little leaf

30 Days of Thanksgiving Poems, Day 1 is a short story about a little leaf needing courage to let go. I hope you enjoy reading this poem God gave me from my morning devotion time in Joshua 1:1-9.

Take Courage ~ the story of a little leaf

I clung to my branch as tight as I could
afraid to let go, unsteady and unsure
watching all of my friends
as in bravery they released their hold
flew on the wind, landing safely and sound.
