For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. I will be found by you, says the Lord, and I will bring you back from your captivity; I will gather you from all the nations and from all the places where I have driven you, says the Lord, and I will bring you to the place from which I cause you to be carried away captive.
Jeremiah 29:11-14
I WILL SEEK YOU
I will seek You and I will find You
I will lift up my eyes and I will search for You
I will seek You and I will find You
I will lift up my eyes and I will search for You
For your love is everlasting and your faithfulness is great
You have brought me out of darkness
and you’ve saved me by your grace
You surround me with your goodness
You embrace me with your love
You caress me with your faithfulness
Your words like honey on my tongue
I am humbled by your presence
I long to see Your face
I am desperate for Your kingdom
I fall down on my knees
Your grace is so amazing
Your mercies ever new
Let my mouth be filled with laughter
And my joy become full
I have sought you and I have found you O Lord
I lift up my heart and I worship you
I have sought you and I have found you O Lord
I fall down on my knees and I worship you.

A few years ago I was studying the above verses in Jeremiah and I was especially captivated by verses 12 and 13. Let’s read those together again:
“Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”
While verse 11 tells us God’s good plans for us is to give us a hope and a future, I can’t help but be amazed how seldom the next verses are mentioned. Now, granted, at the time these verses were written, Israel was in captivity and God was letting them know He will restore them and bring them out of their enslavement. Here’s the catch though: they will need to call upon God, pray to Him, and seek Him with all their heart … THEN He will find them and bring them out of their captivity.
Lately I’ve been focusing on Matthew 6:33-34. “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” These verses are the conclusion on a passage about not worrying about your life or what you will wear, eat, or drink. But there is a condition to this, did you catch it?
Seek first God’s kingdom and His righteousness, THEN all these things will be added to you. Is it possible we are not happy, and do not have the things we need, because we have not kept God first in our lives. Oh how guilty I am of this.
Thanksgiving is coming soon. In a couple of weeks I will begin my annual 30 Days of Thanksgiving Poems. But I have been struck by the conviction that unless I put God first in my life, my poems will not mean as much to me, nor to you.
So, my prayer is this: that we will seek God first with all our heart, mind, soul, and spirit, and be brought out of the captivity we have put ourselves into. And in the month of November we will be ready to live our days in true and genuine thankfulness.
From My Heart to Yours,
Marcie
