Pondering The Poetic Heart
Pondering the Poetic Heart is a place to guide our spirits into place of contemplative rest. As a poet, I long to encourage you to find hope and healing through the process of reflecting on God, love, life, and all things that capture the spirit through the written word.
In the month of November, I will lead us through a time of thanksgiving through my 30 Days of Thanksgiving Poems. In December we will ring the bells of Christmas. There will also be other times through the year when we will celebrate love, just for fun poetry, and more. I pray this will be a place of loving contentment for all of us.
In the Light of Thanksgiving
During the daytime it can be easier to think on things to be thankful for, but in the quietness of the night, it can be a harder choice.
In the light of Thanksgiving
it’s easy to give thanks
when with family and friends
around full tables and plates.
Promise Me
While you're buying and wrapping all the presents, and decorating the house, don't forget what Christmas is all about.
Promise Me when this month is clear
you will not forget Me the rest of the year
Promise Me you’ll remember
all the ways of thankfulness I’ve taught you.
How the Grumps Stole Thanksgiving
Ever had the holiday blues? One day you're happy and enjoying the holidays, the next you feel like destroying everything in your path? Today the grumps got in my way. They stole my thanksgiving attitude. But a little time with Jesus can change anything.
Lord I’m feeling grumpy
oh how can this be?
Yesterday was so wonderful
but today my thoughts are stuffy
I’m grouchy and I’m cranky
what happened to my attitude
of thanksgiving and gratitude?
Deck the Halls
Have you made room in your heart for Jesus yet this Thanksgiving?
. . .make it ready, find some room
come close to the manger,
God’s special gift, just for you.
Cookie Cutter Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving to my readers, family, and friends. Thank you for sticking with me through these 30 days of Thanks. And thank you to all who have shared each post.
I don’t want a cookie cutter day with cookie cutter graces
I don’t want the same shapes and conversations
I can’t think of anything more perfect than a day of rest
creating memories in a hope-filled chest.
A Place for You
It's so hard to give thanks to God when our hearts are cluttered with impure thoughts and actions. May we seek God with clean hearts and hands this Thanksgiving.
Create in me a clean heart oh Lord
ready to meet You Thanksgiving morn
with a space for grace and a heart of thanks. . .
Wise Men Three (Are you still seeking?)
Have you ever been thankful for those who have gone before us, seeking Jesus? If they hadn't, would we know about Him today? Maybe, maybe not. From Abraham to Paul and even to our recent ancestors, their pursuit of God is what has led us to God. So, today I am thankful for all those who have walked this journey before us and lead us to Jesus. Are you still seeking Him?
If wise men still seek Him
I wonder how far
we will go seeking
our One True Star?
the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!
On this Thanksgiving, I can’t help but think
of the baby in the manger so long ago
how His birthday has come
we can be thankful for the One
who fills us with joy and hope.
And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.” Luke 2:12
This is the Air I Breathe
If you have asthma, you know how hard it can be to breathe sometimes; especially when trying to clean the house. I'm so thankful God gives us His breath to breathe every day. Without Him, we could not live and be a vessel for Him.
I asked you to help me breathe
breathe through the dust and debris
keep my lungs free, give sweet relief
to the chaos of the messes I’ve made. . .
